They key to a successful week is getting to spend time with the family, outlining and planning the next portion of my next novel, eating some good food, and, of course, having some good reading material. All of that criteria was met and exceeded this week. Not only did I have great reading material, but I had two great books to focus on. Sadly, though, one of them I have to check back in because I finished it. That’s the dichotomy of a good book, that you read it so fast because it’s good, but then it’s over and all you have left are the memories.
Checked Back In:
- Little Bee, by Chris Cleave. I was even inspired to write a little review that you can find here.
- Pro Blogger, by Darren Rowse
I hadn’t even realized I had gone two weeks between reading Pro Blogger, so when my wife brought up the fact (it was on her library card, not mine) I decided to just send it back and get it out again another time. There are too many books out there, and too little time. Am I right?
Here are the books I have Checked Out:
- Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison
- Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs
- U2 By U2, by U2 with Neil McCormick
- U2 Faraway So Close, by BP Fallon
- The Impossible Knife of Memory, by Laurie Halse Anderson
I’m wondering whether or not I’ll really like Miss Peregrine’s because I started the book and it seems a little different. I’m not sure if the difference is something I like or not, but I’ll try to get into it again shortly, right after I finish The Impossible Knife. I need to get a start on Invisible Man, too, because the meeting is coming up where I want to be prepared to discuss it. It’s not like I’m stalling either, but what I said before rings true. There’s just not enough time.
Also on my list to grab ASAP is a book by a new author, Cemetery Tours by Jacqueline Smith. It seems like it’s right up my alley with its ghostly presence. Oh, and one of these days I’ll get back to Saving Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan. At the end of the month I get to discuss Little Bee as well with my book club, so I’ll get to revisit it. It’s always fun to revisit a book I enjoyed!
What are YOU reading this week?
Sam
I have to check out Cemetery Tours! I have a great interest in ghosts!
While you’re at it I highly recommend Ruined, by Paula Morris, as well. It’s ghostly dynamic.
Thanks, I will check those out!
