What is with all the goats on youTube today? At least, that’s all I’ve seen in my Facebook newsfeed. There is this Taylor Swift video where she’s singing to and with goats for her song, Trouble. Bahahahaha. And a compilation of goats yelling like humans. It’s maddening, really, how these videos can go viral. It makes me think of that wedding video of the people dancing down the aisle, and how crazy that went… for a few weeks. And then the Harlem Shake, and all the madness that went with that. To tell you the truth, I don’t even watch these videos, even though I see their titles go through my newsfeed.
On the radio this morning, they were talking with women about their Pinterest boards and the things they pinned to them. I had no idea how crazy the world of Pinterest was, even though people have been sending it through my newsfeed for a while now. Just like the youTube videos, I see them, but I don’t focus on them. But this radio show was talking to women about how they pinned many items to a wedding board they had set up, and how their boyfriends would react if they knew about the boards. These women spend so much time on these boards, creating things they may never use, but that they thought were cute. And I can’t even imagine being one of them, with these rotating boards that I think no one will ever see, and that I might never use.
Don’t even get me started on Twitter. If I see one more hashtag or @ sign make its way into my newsfeed it will be way too soon.
Don’t even get me started on Twitter. If I see one more hashtag (I still call them number signs) or @ sign make its way into my newsfeed it will be way too soon. And they’ve insinuated their way into other things as well. While watching American Idol the other night, I was struck at how many small things are Twitter friendly on there. Each contestant had a hashtag or an @ sign so you can interact with others about them, and then these things are “trending.” I don’t get it. I mean, I know trending means something is “hot” right now, but where’s the joy in saying you’re trending when goats on youTube are also trending?
Did you notice what ties all these things together and why I’m inundated with them on a regular basis? That’s right. Facebook has become a jack-of-all-trades, allowing people to share all of these different media in one place at one time. See what’s on your friends’ Pinterest boards, while checking out their tweets, while seeing what they thought was funny on youTube, all from the comfort of your Facebook newsfeed. And while I love Facebook for sharing thoughts and conversations with friends, I can’t stand the other things that come along with it. Luckily, there are avoidance methods, and I take advantage of as many of them as I can.
But the goats. They’re damn funny.

“where’s the joy in saying you’re trending when goats on youTube are also trending?” Hah, hah, hah…
# means sharp to me. 🙂
Oh yeah. Sharp. I had forgotten all about that.
