How exactly did I get into these home improvement shows? Back in the day, if I had my druthers, I would have watched anything but the home improvement channel. Well, that and the surgery channel (blood is not my thing). I was into Kelly Kapowski, the crew from Friends, even Days of Our Lives, but … Continue reading Home. Improvement.
10 years ago, to the day, my favorite television show ever, Friends, ended in grand style with a two-part finale that wrapped everything up much better than a lot of finales have before or since. Of course, being such a huge fan, I wanted several certain things to happen, and I had my fingers crossed for:
Rachel and Ross to end up together
Monica and Chandler to have their kids
Joey to not be left behind
Closure on this part of their lives
Hope for good things to happen in their future
In fact, 10 years later I imagine Ross and Rachel have two more beautiful children, and Ben is a good big brother to them all, even though he’s in college in Rhode Island so he doesn’t see them nearly as much as he would wish. Joey’s attempt at restarting his acting career gave him a chance to reconnect with his sister and his nephew in Los Angeles, then he lands an amazing part in a new sitcom as the headmaster of a school for young boys. The show is still a huge international hit. Monica and Chandler raised the twins well, and then 3 years after their birth Monica got pregnant despite the odds and ironically had another set of twins they called Joey and Phoebe.
Ehmagosh! The 1980s was the era of big hair, of the Huxtables, of Bo knowing all sorts of stuff, and of Reaganomics. Ask any two people who were of age during that time period and you’ll get a million different answers about what made the ’80s so special. Now we look back and we can’t help thinking about how cheesy it all seems from a distance, but when we were in the middle of it, the ’80s were breathtaking. My earliest memories took place in 1984 when I was seven years old, and revolved around music. Some of my best memories took place in 1988 when I was eleven years old and I wrote my first short story.
But some of the shared memories were the best because if I bring them up, like the Huxtables above, others will go, “Yeah! I remember that too!” It’s that shared experience that make the ’80s so exciting to revisit (like some kind of hot tub time machine). Some of the biggest shared memories were those ’80s slogans that kept going around and around our heads. They were so catchy! So, here are my top 5 ’80s slogans:
Guilty as charged. The jury wasn’t even very long in deliberations today. The water cooler has spoken, and I am amused by its decision. Today around the water cooler we talked about the guilty pleasures we have in life, and why they make us feel guilty. The Bachelorette. What can I say? I absolutely love … Continue reading Weekly Water Cooler Musings: On Guilty Pleasures
I pulled into the television station parking lot, sweating like you would not believe. Half of it was from the insane heat and humidity today (who would have figured?), and the other half was from the nervous anticipation I felt at being on the news, even for a mere 3-4 minutes. I was on television … Continue reading @WKTV: Behind the Scenes of the Interview
I’ll admit it. I was in love with Winnie Cooper. Every Wednesday night at eight o’clock she entered my world and refused to leave until eight thirty, a vision in bell bottoms and flowered-print shirts, with the cutest glasses I had ever seen on another human being. Yes, it hurt that she was in love … Continue reading For the Love of Winnie Cooper
