Unlike the other syndromes, this one isn’t just interesting. It’s downright and shockingly sad. I just heard the news that former country star Mindy McCready finally succeeded in committing suicide, after many failed attempts and a stint or two at a psychiatric facility. Mental health is so much more than just something you can study and something you can improve at. It’s disturbing the numbers of people who suffer from this disease, and that’s what it is, a disease. You can’t get cured from it, either. It’s frustrating to see the effects of it. I call it the Kurt Cobain syndrome, and it sadly has fatal ends, leaving loved ones in distress and wondering “Why”?

Kurt Cobain was a very troubled soul whose pain came out in his lyrics, in the strangled sounds of his voice as he sang, in the relationships he had with his wife and with his child. He wrote songs like “I Hate Myself and Want to Die,” and he tried to kill himself by overdosing, but through all of that he had people saying he didn’t have a death wish. “And I swear that I don’t have a gun,” but he did have one, as we found out way too late. And the signs were all there. That’s what honestly gets to me the most. There are always the signs. When Kurt Cobain died there were many people who felt they knew him, but there was no one he felt close enough to, to confide in, who he felt could feel his pain. He just had to get away from it all, and he finally got his wish.
Ironically, I was listening to country music earlier this evening while preparing a blog entry on 7 essential country albums you should add to your collection, and I came across Mindy McCready’s If I Don’t Stay the Night, one of the first country albums that I ever owned. I do
think everyone should own it, but it didn’t make my list of 7 for whatever reasons. Then, a mere couple of hours later I heard the news that rocked me like not many celebrity deaths have done. It’s because I felt like it was coming. Like with Kurt, and like with Layne Staley from Alice in Chains, it was like a huge train wreck waiting to happen. And just like with Kurt Cobain, I’m incredibly saddened because as high profile as these celebrities are, no one truly knows what is within them, what sad echoes they hear at night, what they’re running from.
Until they get their wish. And then it’s too late.

Make sure you check out the song she recorded right beofre her suicide. They are saying it was a suicide note basically. Very sad, especially for her kids. And, she killed her boyfriend’s dog before she killed herself…. and her byfriend committed suicide as well… they are saying that was a huge part of her depression because she said he was her soul mate.
A soul cannot live without its counterpart. It’s just so sad, but yes, they telegraph what they will do. Her last album was “I’m Still Here,” and it sounds so ironic now that the story has played out. I feel so bad for her kids.
