5. “A bird in the hand is worth precisely that.”
I think this means stop letting your focus waver to every little thing, and to just focus completely on whatever is the task at hand. This would be a really hard thing for people diagnosed with ADHD, although this diagnosis wasn’t around in Theodicus’ day.
4. “Never mistake an old man for a wise one.”
Too many people think that age equals wisdom, but I have met many an old fool, and just as many young sages. Maybe if you see the world in this way it will save you from trusting those who shouldn’t be trusted.
3. “The day always seems shorter than the night, but this is a misnomer.”
I like to think that our conscious minds enjoy being in charge, and it is this more than anything else that grounds us to reality, to our world. Therefore, when the subconscious takes over, in its realm called night, we are no longer in reality, so we don’t acknowledge it. Ironically, the subconscious is more honest than the conscious.
2. “Judge only those who deserve judgment.”
Too many people judge everyone else based on their own worldview, but not everyone else lives by your worldview. Hence, look at yourself first, determine your own worldview and look for it in others before you judge.
1. “A pleasant personality is more important than riches. It gives back tenfold what it takes to maintain, and no amount of worldly possessions can claim the same.”
I think this one speaks for itself, but interestingly enough for most people they don’t follow this advice. A frown is more likely to push others away and make your own life more miserable. Just saying.
